Interaction of these acids with bases (sodium hydroxide, morpholine, hexamethyleneimine) produced 2-[3-methyl-1-ethylxanthinyl-8-thio]acetic acid salts containing a thietane ring, with yields of 44 - 96%. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by IR and NMR spectroscopy data.
